Thompson High School Athletics Announces Jersey Retirement Ceremony for Monique Bivins

Alabaster, AL January 13, 2021 – Thompson High School Athletic Department is pleased to announce a ceremony honoring Monique Bivins this Friday Night (1/15/2021). The ceremony will take place between the Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball Game roughly around 7:15 PM.

Bivins, was selected as the 37th overall pick in the WNBA draft in 2005. She was a (4) four year letter winner at the University of Alabama where she became the 20th player in UA history to surpass 1,000 career points. She was a three (3) starter for the Tide. Bivins finished her career ranked fifth all-time at Alabama for three-pointers made. She was twice named second-team ALL-SEC. She played in all 116 games in her college career where she averaged 10.1 points per game. She led the team at Alabama in scoring her Junior and Senior years.

While at Thompson High School Bivins received many accolades. She holds the Thompson High School record with most points in a career with 2,689. Bivins Senior year she averaged 25.6 points per game. She was selected as a member of the Alabama Sports Writers Super 5 during her Senior High School campaign. She was a member of the 2001 Alabama / Mississippi All-star game. Bivins was selected by the AHSAA to participate in the North / South game in 2000. Bivins capped off her senior year by being named 1st team All-state. She was 1st team All-State her junior year and Honorable Mention All-State her sophomore and freshman years. Bivins was named MVP of the Shelby County Tournament all 4 years she participated.
